see.miles.(m)eat

Our household consists of 1 guy, 1 girl, and 1 dog. Mike and I are vegetarians and we may eat an occasional fish or crustacean. Miles is a carnivore. He eats meat and no... we are not going to try to convert him :)
Now that I have had some extra time here and there I have taken it upon myself to make sure Miles is getting the best diet possible. I have been preparing his food at home- that's right, no more dry dog food.
Pre-homemade diet Miles would show very little interest in food. I would serve him dry food and occasionally some wet food, I would then have to beg him to come into the kitchen, he would sniff it, shrug (or at least it looked like a shrug) and then walk away. Miles has always been a little odd, he watches television, when he is in trouble he turns around and sits with his back towards you... but what dog doesn't like food?
I never gave him people food except popcorn. That is his favorite, but even that he is nonchalant about eating. I usually throw the popcorn in the air for him to catch... it just gets stuck in his eyebrows or he runs away thinking he is in trouble.
All these things were pre-homemade food. Now post-homemade food... he waits. He waits until 4:59 PM and as soon as the clock reaches 5:00 PM he starts harassing me. First he stares intently at me, then when I get up he circles my legs, then he sits in the kitchen just waiting- all this for food! Dinner time!!
So for the first time in about 5 years you will now find my fridge and freezer stocked with this!
And some of this!
Mike and I went to this butcher near where we live- Moo and Oink. They had incredible deals on meat. So we loaded up. 8 lbs of chicken, pork, and ground beef all for under $15!! That is less then a large bag of dog food!!
Typical Miles dinner...
To redeem ourselves as vegetarians (on the night of meat shopping and cooking) I made marinated veggie sandwiches- extra vegan!
But when I'm elbow deep in raw chicken parts and pork necks I just hum the song
"the things you do for love"

  1. Try a food grinder to grind the meat with some grains like rice (for filler). You can add some oils that way too.
